back to school prep :: stocking up on school supplies

So yesterday I mentioned on my Facebook page how I went out to shop for school supplies – getting about $56 worth for the cheap, cheap total of just over $3!

Unfortunately, I’m not a deal blogger who will list out all of the prices and the exact scenario of the sale.  But, I can encourage you to try out Office Max’s reward program.  There wasn’t a request or any payment offered, I just really like Office Max – it’s where I shop for practical homeschool supplies, mainly because of the rewards program.

Since back to school is right around the corner, just wanted to give a heads up!

Here’s what I purchased:

  • 8 glue sticks
  • 3 sets of 5 dividers
  • 3 rolls of masking tape
  • 5 sets of 100 lined 3×5 cards (at 1 cent each!)
  • 1 mailing tape w/dispenser
  • 6 rolls of invisible tape, store brand
  • 1 set of 4 erasers w/grips
  • 4 packs of 300 sheets of college ruled paper
  • 4 two-pocket folders w/brads
  • 5 spiral notebooks, 70 sheets each
  • package of 25 cap erasers for pencils
  • 1 small scissors
  • 1 large scissors

The 3 types of tape were our priciest items – my kids love tape!

Office Max has a teacher’s reward program (any homeschool parent can sign up!); my perks rewards accrue quarterly.

To snag my deal above, I used a $15 off $55 or more store coupon, plus $40 in rewards I had earned last quarter from returning empty printer cartridges and other purchases (I had to pay tax which brought it to a little over $3).

And yes, I try to purchase items with my reward money which offer perks  — so it’s been a great cycle of paying little to nothing for my purchases, and earning MORE reward dollars all at the same time.

By the way, I do this at CVS too :)!
