maple sugaring time :: unit study ideas

{an edited post from the archives}

In our region of the country, it’s time for maple sugaring – a sign that spring is just around the corner! Winter still could take us by surprise and bring on more snow :: but, we’ve started to anticipate the season anyway!

Try making these  maple apple tartlets :: photos from last year, I plan to make them again!  Or simply enjoy pancakes with warm maple syrup.

Along with sampling new maple recipes, watch a few youtube videos on maple sugaring.

Check your local park to see if they offer maple sugaring demonstrations!  Take along paper & crayons or colored pencils and do a tree rubbing to bring home.

Buy various grades of syrup to try and graph the results – which one is the favorite?

A sample of books to read for preschool -5th grade (or older!) ~
